چکیده

Weintroduceanewkindofmosaicing, where thepositionof the samplingstrip varies asa functionof the input camera location. The new images that are generated this way correspond to a new projection model defined by two slits, termed here the Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) projection. In this projection model, every 3D point is projected by a ray defined as the line that passes through that point and intersects the two slits. The intersection of the projection rays with the imaging surface defines the image. X-Slits mosaicing provides two benefits. First, the generated mosaics are closer to perspective images than traditional pushbroom mosaics. Second, by simple manipulationsof the strip sampling function, wecanchange the locationof oneof the virtual slits, providingavirtualwalkthroughof aX-slits camera; all this can be done without recovering any 3D geometry and without calibration. A number of examples where we translate the virtual camera and change its orientation are given; the examples demonstrate realistic changes in parallax, reflections, and occlusions.

New View Synthesis with Non-stationary Mosaicing

Practically all image rendering methods today use the perspective projection, or try to approximate it. We develop a new image-based rendering approach which is based on a new projection model – the Crossed-Slits X-Slits projection. The model is obtained by relaxing the requirement that all projection rays intersect at a single point (the focal-point). Instead, projection rays are required by d...

Video Synthesis made simple with the X-Slits Projection

We propose novel algorithms for image based rendering (IBR) by simulating a new family of scene-to-image projections, the Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) projections. New X-Slits images can be easily generated from a sequence of images captured by a translating pinhole camera, and those images look compelling and realistic. We show how this can be used for rendering movies of virtual walkthroughs by a ...

Video Mosaicing using Manifold Projection

Video mosaicing is commonly used to increase the visual eld of view by pasting together many video frames. Existing mosaicing methods are eeective only in very limited cases where the image motion is almost a uniform translation or the camera performs a pure pan. Forward camera motion or camera zoom are very problematic for traditional mosaicing. A mosaicing methodology to allow image mosaicing...

On the Epipolar Geometry of the Crossed-Slits Projection

The Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) camera is defined by two nonintersecting slits, which replace the pinhole in the common perspective camera. Each point in space is projected to the image plane by a ray which passes through the point and the two slits. The X-Slits projection model includes the pushbroom camera as a special case. In addition, it describes a certain class of panoramic images, which are...

Analyzing the Spatio-Temporal Domain: from View Synthesis to Motion Segmentation

In this work I investigate spatio-temporal information in a video sequence. The advantage of considering a video sequence as a 3D spatio-temporal function with temporal continuity (rather than merely a discrete collection of 2D images) is demonstrated by two computer vision techniques which I have developed. View Synthesis: Each frame of the video sequence is an intersection of the spatio-tempo...
